AI Powered Engineering: Issue #13
The heat is on as Anthropic drops Claude Code for the Web and iOS, HyperSpell catches my eye, and Claire now has mini episodes and I'm really digging the first one
Hello and welcome to the 13th issue of AI Powered Engineering.
If you’re new here, welcome - the goal of this little newsletter is to help software engineers writer better code faster using AI. But to be clear, this is not a newsletter about vibe coding, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you’ve come to the wrong place.
Also, this newsletter has no sponsors and no subscription fees, so everything I write is completely unbiased, I have no companies paying me money to shill their products. I’m an engineer so I try lots of things, read as much as I can consume, and share some of the best nuggets that I can find.
This week has already been a monster with Anthropic announcing Claude Code for the Web and iOS, and OpenAI dropping Atlas, their new AI-powered browser yesterday morning.

This is an incredibly exciting time for AI Powered Engineering with the competition between OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code taking center stage, or at least, that’s what I see as the hottest topic right now.
And with that, I’m keeping these short and sweet, so let’s get to the good stuff - enjoy.
The Claude Code to Codex shift is real, but could Claude Code on the Web reverse the trend?
I talked about this in my last issue, and it’s a trend I can’t help but continue to see materialize. It does seem pretty clear to me that OpenAI really cooked with the recent updates to Codex, and now more and more engineers are making the move.
Fully switched over my entire coding workflow to Codex.
If you frontload all the major architectural decisions with a planning phase, you can easily get production level output with multi-hour Codex runs.
It's not "vibe coding", I have no expectations of building something

I think this tweet above from David does a good job of highlighting why people are making the move. At the same time, Claude Code introduced a web-based solution and iOS app this week…so I’m curious if this could in some ways reverse the trend.
Introducing Claude Code on the web.
You can now delegate coding tasks to Claude without opening your terminal.

To me, it seems clear this move from Anthropic two days ago is in reaction to OpenAI’s latest moves with Codex. I haven’t had a chance to dive in and try it myself but you can expect that I’ll be sharing more about it in my next issue once I get to roll up my sleeves and jam with it myself.
That being said, I am hearing some pretty good things about a new feature in Claude Code on the web called Teleport, here’s a good tweet showing it in action:
My favorite feature in Claude Code on the web is teleport.
It moves your remote session, wit

HyperSpell - a YC company on my radar that I’m, trying out now
There are a lot of really interesting companies in the current YC batch, but one that really caught my eye is HyperSpell, which makes it easy to add context + memory to your AI Agents.

What I dig about HyperSpell is that they’ve done all the heavy lifting building connectors to things like Notion, AirTable, Google Docs, Slack, etc. and then load this into a knowledge graph, essentially creating memories users can query. Here’s a bit more about memories since this is the core of it all and what has me the most excited about what HyperSpell is doing.

There are a number of different things I’m going to be testing in HyperSpell, and I’m pretty excited about what this could unlock. I’ve always been wired to be an early adopter, and while I love using all the neat stuff that Anthropic and OpenAI release, I find some of the most truly cutting edge opportunities come from smaller startups that are still figuring things out.
We are moving into a world, or for many of us, are already in a world where AI agents are at the core of so many things that we do. I think arming these agents with as much specialized, and up-to-date data as possible is going to give some companies a massive advantage.
I also think this is a big space, and it’s not just HyperSpell innovating in the agent memory space, but I do think what they’re doing is pretty unique and I’m excited to dive deeper, and thought they should be on your radar if they aren’t already.
Claire is starting “How I AI mini” episodes, and the first one is a must-watch IMHO
I’m a big fan of Claire Vo’s - both because we go way back, we went through Techstars Austin together back in 2014, and I also use ChatPRD, which has totally transformed how we create and optimize our PRD process.
But on top of all that, Claire’s Podcast, How I AI, has become one of my favorites, and she just announced a new mini episode format that I think is pretty neat. The first mini episode is about Claude Skills, and honestly I do think it’s a must-watch because I woke up this morning, watched it, and now can’t stop thinking about all the interesting things I can do with Claude Skills.
I read dozens of posts about @claudeai skills and not one mentioned you have to make a .zip file
Which is why I’m starting How I AI mini episodes, where I give my quick, hands-on take on new AI releases and how best to get started with them.
In our first mini ep, I walk through

Okay that’s a wrap for this issue - thanks for reading and as a quick reminder - I have no sponsors, no eBook to sell you, no course, no podcast, and no set schedule.
If you like my newsletter, the most I can ask is that you share it with others so they can benefit from it. And if you want to give me a follow on X @morganlinton, I often RT nuggets like you’ll find in here, along with likely way too many photos of Lake Tahoe because I can’t help myself.
Oh and I’m going to be at Github Universe next week, so if you’re there and want to chat over a coffee or one of those awesome juices that I hope they have again this year…feel free to shoot me a note on X, that’s the easiest place to find me.
Thanks for reading and until next time!

Secret Bonus Video 👀
People seemed to like this section last week so I thought, what the heck, let’s keep it going for anyone who dares to scroll this far. Here’s one of my favorite YT videos about Claude Code. Honestly, even if you use CC daily, there’s likely a nugget or two in here for you.
